Greeneville City Schools Launches Home Internet Safety & Fundraising Program
Greeneville City Schools, an award winning school district known for academic excellence, announced today that they are launching an innovative program to provide safe Internet surfing for home users that will also raise funds for the schools. The program is being launched in partnership with CornerPost Software, an Internet safety company based in Duffield, Virginia.

Greeneville, TN - February 21, 2005 - Greeneville City Schools, an award winning school district known for academic excellence, announced today that they are launching an innovative program to provide safe Internet surfing for home users that will also raise funds for the schools. The program is being launched in partnership with CornerPost Software, an Internet safety company based in Duffield, Virginia.

Safe Internet surfing is provided by CornerPost Software’s home product Chaperon@Home. Chaperon@Home is built for home and small office users who want to provide a safer Internet access for their users. “Research shows that 40% of children’s friends are people they have met online, and as a result, their parents don’t know them either. Chaperon’s long list of features helps you protect your family online,” said Ryan Elswick, Marketing Director for CornerPost Software. “We’re proud to be able to provide this service to the Greeneville City School System – they are leaders in the academic community, and we are pleased to be working with them.”

When Internet users subscribe to Chaperon@Home, a portion of their subscription fees are assigned to Greeneville City Schools for as long as they are a Chaperon@Home customer. Unlike traditional fundraising methods, Greeneville’s program is not limited by geography. “Anyone may join from anywhere, as long as they have an Internet connection and know our code,” said Beverly Miller, Director of Technology Systems for Greeneville City Schools. “We are very excited to be one of the first school systems in the nation to provide this program.” Another thing that makes this fund raising effort unique is the partnership between the G.S.I.A. (Greeneville Schools In Action) parent organization and the Greeneville City Schools Foundation. G.S.I.A. members are volunteering many hours to help educate the community about this exciting venture and are also working with students and teachers to make the event a huge success. The Greeneville City Schools Foundation is also a valuable partner and will serve as the administrator of the funds raised.

Chaperon@Home runs on Windows XP and Windows 2000, and brings Internet safety to any Internet account, and any type of connection, including dial-up. Chaperon gives computer owners control over who can use the Internet on their computer. It also blocks inappropriate websites, and sends alerts on inappropriate web use. Chaperon also prevents private information from being sent out via instant messenger, and tracks Internet usage for every Internet user so that even if history is erased on a computer, a log of their Internet use still remains. Subscriptions may be purchased on a monthly or yearly basis. A single month’s subscription is $8.25, and a year’s subscription is $89.00.

Each student in the Greeneville City School System will be given cards with Greeneville’s code imprinted on the front. The student will receive credit when others use the code on the front of their cards. If anyone has trouble obtaining a card, they can also enter code 0301-20-001-002 when they purchase Chaperon@Home, and they will still be able to support the school system through their Chaperon@Home subscription. Chaperon is available online at http://www.chaperonhome.com.
